 NemID digital signature  (Danish version)

From 1 July 2010, the new digital signature ”NemID” is replacing the former digital signature. The differences between NemID and the former digital signature are:

  • You do not need to install anything on your computer
  • You need a personally chosen user-ID and password and you need a key-card
  • You can bring NemID with you whereever you go

With NemID, the citizen needs only to remember one log-in that will give the citizen access to public services, and it will also give access to netbanking and a growing number of different private services. It is therefore the same act that the citizen needs to do when he/she wishes to e.g. pay bills in the bank, change address or submit a yearly tax statement.

NemID is based on a log-in with a two-factor security – something in your ”head” and something in your ”hand”. In the head, the user will have his user-ID and password. In the hand, the user will have a key card with a number of codes that can be used only one time (keys).

The user will use a new key from the personal key card every time the signature is used. The digital signature is kept on a secure central server - this means that the security is not based on the security of the citizen's pc alone as it was before. A new key card will automatically be sent to the citizen before the previous one runs out of codes.

Please be aware that NemID and the former digital signature will exist simultaneously for a period of up to two years. The former digital signature will therefore still be usuable until it runs out.

Danes that are residing in Thailand and are in need of the digital signature ”Nem-ID” can order the NemID in two ways:

  1. The citizen may order the NemID on the web site NemID.nu and thereafter pick up a temporary password-letter on a Danish representation such as the Consulate in Pattaya or the Embassy in Bangkok (a fee will be charged for this service).
  2. The citizen may have the NemID issued when on a holiday in Denmark by visiting one of the ”Borgerservicecentre” (Citizen service centres) in the municipalities that offers issuing of NemID or in any official tax office. The citizen is requested to show up in person at one of these centres and the NemID can be issued immediately without the temporary password-letter (this service is free of charge).

Please follow this procedure if you wish to order a NemID and collect the temporary password at the Consulate in Pattaya:
  • Go to the web site www.nemid.nu and follow the guideline on how to order a NemID. Remember to enter the consulate in Pattaya as the place you wish to collect the password letter.

  • Remember to enter the address to which you wish to have your key card sent. It is the intention that the citizen should note his/her private residence as address, however for Danes residing abroad it is also possible to submit a different address, e.g. the address of the citizen's work place, if sending the key card to this address is considered a safe option.
  • The key card will be sent to the address you submitted and the temporary password letter will be sent to the consulate.
  • Please contact the consulate within two weeks after your order of NemID. You are kindly asked to give us your contact information so we can contact you when we receive the letter. Please note – the digital signature has a limited period of validity, and it will therefore be cancelled if the letter is not collected within a certain period of time.
  • When we have received the letter at the consulate, we will contact you. You are requested to appear in person at the consulate, bringing a valid passport and pay the service fee of 1,050 Baht upon collection.
